Robotic Research, LLC is a small engineering firm founded by Alberto Lacaze and Karl Murphy in 2002. Both worked together in the Intelligent Systems Division of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (Gaithersburg, MD) when they decided to make the move (across the street as it turned out) to pursue their own interests in unmanned vehicles, artificial intelligence and their own unique projects. Alberto and Karl remain the heart and soul, as well as the brains, of the company that has now grown to a team of 16. The company philosophy has been to bring together those who can, first and foremost, be part of a team effort, followed by a compelling interest in unmanned systems, possess a flexible imagination, and have gained the technical excellence to significantly contribute to many diverse and challenging projects.
